Statement
Putting pen to paper has always been a catharsis of the soul. The cleansing properties of paper are well known from paper tissues to paper towels, from letters to manuscripts. When one’s hands come into contact with paper there are a multitude of reasons and effects, from writing, to wrapping to cleaning. All three actions in reality have a cleansing effect, from clearing the clutter of one’s mind, to clearing the soul, to wrapping a gift be it flowers or explosives whence the object is again the satisfaction of one’s internal emotions, to the wiping away of hands from that which may have soiled them, either in preparation for higher hygienic uses or in removing traces of misdeeds. In either circumstance the object of paper is to take upon itself that which man decides to impose on it.
Peace is like paper, it may be used, misused and abused in all its forms, by one side or another taking upon it the deeds and misdeeds of humanity. Real Peace comes from within and finds its fruition in the meeting of sides through its cleansing and healing properties, once used forever recorded.
Ode to paper
Paper has withstood the test of time
Crumpled, torn and shredded,
Doodled and scribbled on
Chewed and dog eared.
Next generation ushered in
On sterilised paper towels
Coddled in paper nappies
Pink or blue
Used and discarded
To be recycled
Reassigned
Reused
Collecting the tears of fragile humanity
The fears of terrified beings
The hopes of lost souls
Yet resilient
Written, recorded, logged and bound
Legalised and notarised
Our collective assets
For posterity
The collective consciousness
Laid bare and unassuming
Black on white
Poetry and prose.
Documentaries, facts and fiction
History and fame
Notoriety and shame
Poignant paper
Love, hate, sorrow and joy
There will be found
On paper inscribed
For all time.
