Ποιειν Και Πραττειν - create and do

Evaluation session with Sue Tilden

Sue Tilden suggests following aims should be strived for:

1. A publication of all the materials gathered together with an evaluation report of this discussion. This booklet should be given to the Youth of Chania and may include as reference as well materials of the overall conference 'Myth of the City'.

2. The Youth and in particular the Cultural Committee of Chania along with its Youth Organisation are to be encouraged to proceed in the following manner:

- Refinement and fuller development of the vision ideas, including the vision of a city free of violence. How such a vision affects behaviors and attitudes towards the city they are living in. There should be strived for a co-operation between the different groups, in order to arrive at an overall vision for Chania as perceived by the Youth of today. This is why the evaluation will have to include judgments by the Youth itself as to whether or not they think Chania has a future for them?

- Development of broad goals to be realized in Chania which will help to realize this vision for the city by the Youth. That might include a decision to pursue projects implemented by the Youth such as the development of 'pocket parks' or 'adoption of litter free zones'. Encouragement should be given to develop further ideas about potential youth projects for the City of Chania. Some participation by the Youth must be guarantee in the decision (selection and monitoring) making process as to which projects are to be funded by how much over what specific time period. The Youth should participate especially in the evaluation as to what they think is achievable.

- There is needed an identification of actions to reach these goals and what plans can be developed for the future.

- Presentation of goals and action proposals should be done to city authorities through mechanisms which allow for discussions, feed-backs and information sessions to give first-hand orientation. There must be guaranteed professional input while approval and/ or assistance given in such a way that it helps to overcome cynical attitudes and an overt readiness to reject all possible offers for alternative solutions and ways of doing things.

- Documentation of how the Youth takes to these actions is of great importance. Special care should be taken to show how they accomplish specific things by succeeding in taking concrete steps towards the creation of a Chania as imagined by the Youth.
