Dear Poets, Corresponding Members of the Poet's Circle

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of C. P. Cavafy (1863 - 1933) being celebrated this year, the Poets Circle is planning a major event in early November at the Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall.

Arguably the most renowned Greek poet in the modern era, Cavafy has had a discernible impact on many others in the craft of poetry, including such celebrated instances as those of W. H. Auden and James Merrill.

We wish to invite Corresponding Members of the Poets Circle to participate in this upcoming Cavafy event, and any electronic or other publications associated with it, by sharing a brief contribution on the theme of "Cavafy & I."

Such a brief - say, in the range of 500 words - contribution may be in any format (essay, prose, poetry or other) and may be either an original text or an excerpt from an already published work on any aspect of this relation between Cavafy and you (whether as a writer or a reader).

We look forward to receiving such contributions (as Microsoft Word electronic attachments) either in the original English or in English translation (with the original in some other language also attached) before the 15th of September, so that translations into Greek may proceed in time.

Along with your contribution we would appreciate a short biographical note (of less than 99 words), a high-resolution photograph, and a letter giving permission to publish your contribution.

The Poets Circle would be honored to have you participate in this project and event.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know as soon as possible whether to expect a contribution from you, as I very much hope.

Cordial regards,

Dimitris Angelis

Secretary General
