Ποιειν Και Πραττειν - create and do

Brendan Kennelly

Brendan Kennelly in Crete 1995 @Hartmut Schulz

Many a man carries a lunatic asylum

on his neck and shoulders

and has the gumption to call it his head.

‘You could be returning into what they call

the real world’, (the man made of rain) said.

‘The real people are waiting for you

to judge, advise, prophesy, explain.

That’s the goodness of the heart.

The real people know the truest language

and the most effective way to think.

Depart from that, you’re in

the provinces of lost,

the diaspora of the bucking moon.

But don’t worry, you’ll be with

the real people soon.’

Dublin 1998
