Translation Strategies discussed in Valletta - Malta
Conference participants
From April 4th until April 8th, 2013, there took place an interesting conference in Valletta, Malta. It was organized by Literature across Frontiers and had the aim to help developments towards a literary translation hub in Valletta. The latter is conceived to become a part of the legacy for Valletta once it has been European Capital of Culture in 2018.
The strategies in need to be discussed are related to the Mediterranean region, and evolves as a concept out of the work done so far by Literature across Frontiers.
It means letting above all the Arab voices come to word.
Karsten Xuereb, project manager of V18, has outlined his approach to this in his Ph.D. thesis dealing with the North-South dialogue.

At the conference were the poets Claudia Gauci and Arian Grima.
There is in Malta as well Prof. for Literature, Arnold Cassola who has written about The Belgian Memoirs of a Maltese Intellectual: Giovan Francesco Buonamico (1639 - 1680) and about 'Malta: People, Toponymy, Language (4th Century B.C. - 1600) and who has been the teacher of Claudia Gauci and many others.
