Reinhard Schultz – Biography

 

Born in Kassel, Germany, July 1947

Attended Grammar and High School in Kassel until 1964 and stayed in Glenview, Illinois until graduation from Glenbrook South High School in 1965.

Graduated from Goetheschule Kassel in 1966 and subsequently attended Free University in Berlin and Georg-August-University Göttingen until 1971, when he received his diploma in sociology, psychology, theatre studies and journalism after submitting a thesis about Street-, Black- and Guerrilla Theatre in the United States. After a research grant he was hired by John-F. Kennedy-Institute for North American Studies at the Free University of Berlin in 1973, where he taught North American social history until 1978.

 

    

Started freelance work as a picture researcher in 1979 and an exhibition project “The Other America – History, Art, and Culture of the American Labor Movement” for the New Society of Fine Arts (NSFA), Berlin. The exhibition was on tour in Europe for several years. The original catalog was 546 pages with more than 1,200 images. A smaller English language catalog was produced in London by Journeyman Press.

In 1993 Galerie Bilderwelt (World of Pictures) was set up in East Berlin and a project was created for Hamburger “Institut für Sozialforschung” dealing with the holocaust, Vietnam War, State Terrorism, UN interventions, the Gulag and the atomic bomb. Subsequently Bilderwelt produced more than 40 different exhibitions which were shown in a total of more than 200 locations in Austria, France, Germany and Italy as well as Buenos Aires and Chile.

In addition to exhibitions and publications Bilderwelt has created a large collection of images which are distributed worldwide through picture agencies. Bilderwelt is currently located in Germany as well as Italy.
