Ποιειν Και Πραττειν - create and do

Alain Casabona

Pre-history since 2005

The Turin Youth Festival for the Olympic Truce was organised by 'PEACE WAVES' in collaboration with Poiein Kai Prattein in January 2005. A delegation of Greek youth were brought by Hatto Fischer and Thomas Economacos to this festival. There a first contact was made with Kids’ Guernica. A group of youth, Jad Salman among them, painted one such mural in the basement. Things developed from there on.

Poiein kai Prattein learned that Kids’ Guernica would celebrate its 10th anniversary in Ubud, Bali come August 2005. A decision was made within Poiein kai Prattein to make an own contribution by painting in Athens such a mural. That one became known as “The War is Over”. Thomas Economacos and Maya Fischer took the mural to Ubud, Bali and there met for the first time Takuya Kaneda, Tom Anderson, Asit Poddar, Gabriel Felder and other members of the Kids' Guernica network.

In an effort to learn more about Picasso’s Guernica and Kids’ Guernica while preparing for both the mural in Athens and for the trip to Bali, thanks to Frederique Chabaud it was learned in April 14, 2005 that Picasso's atelier had been restored and that Alain Casabona was the man to be contacted for further actions.

Dear Hatto,

looking for more information that I could send you on the Atelier Picasso (your Guernica project). I found this:

glif.free.fr/page courante-2.htm

It is a very interesting initiative and was inaugurated last year in the Atelier Picasso...

I just phoned: their web is not finished (!!). The Atelier Picasso is owned by the Comité National pour l'Education Artistique, and the man to contact (who gave us this photo of the Palestinian and Israeli flag)

is the Secrétaire Général: Alain Casabona.

There was Guernica painted and this could be a beautiful symbol for your project.  He was at the time very much trying to involve us in a more general debate about the war, Palestina etc. He has been involved himself in projects at UNESCO... a man in politics, but I must say, what he did to make this place alive again in Paris is a reason enough to honor him.

I would suggest you could write him a mail

c.n.e.a@wanadoo.fr and explain the project you pursue with whom etc.

Kind thoughts for today

The Kids' Guernica action in Picasso's atelier did finally come about in Oct./ Nov. 2009 and as part of this pre-history, Jad Salman participated. He made a special gift to Alain Casabona in the form of one of his art works.
