Exerpts from a letter written by Mariusz in 1990

"We are here in Poland undergoing big changes so not only this very means of public communication is in turmoil. We have onlz realized that bringing about changes does not necessarily mean solving problems. To me that is not a surprise but to some of my friends are somewhat frustratred - still I can't complain since it was exclusively reserved for the past.

Early in the morning I kept listening to the Polish radio and often what fascinates me is that we, slowly but learning how to talk about our problems - having probablzy in our minds that theare not only reserved (limited) to us - or mabe it is my wishful thinking? ...and we only have problems...

As to me - my attitude to social processes was far from trying to perceive them in black and white. I'm most aware of our human tendency to hide our fears and ambiguity, promoting the "only true", but the modest fellow should not pretend too much because it only helps for the beginning and what if life keeps continuing...?

As to myself - I've had and still have a lot of problems but I see the practical sides of it - it can be used (for) in my art...You know it is still quite visible in my works...but I grow stronger (more solid inside) after overcoming one or two...for I have new ones coming...

Hatto! I like you writing to me. It comes about my emotions but not only. There are not so many people who can discuss ast, life and this openly!

Not that my friends are busy with every day struggles to survive. They simply switched to more secure, practical activities.

Very few are left in the field of n o n e x i s t i n g s p a c e s..."
