Issue: Cultural Differences

Against intercultural dialogue

The ‘foot soldier’ in a letter dated 5th of March objected strongly to cultural means being used to bridge the two sides.

In all of this horror, terror and chaos Daniel Barenboim, player of Wagner,
the symbol of Nazism, in Jerusalem’s Binyanei Ha'uma, has gone beyond the pale, literally. Tomorrow night he will give a special concert in Ramallah.  He says he wants to begin cultural dialogue. He refuses to say if he will play Wagner at the concert. Actually I think it would be appropriate since Arafat has openly said that he wants to finish the works that Hitler started.
Maybe we should put an embargo on Barenboim, on his works, his concerts,
his recordings.  His flagrant dismissal of the feelings of his people will not
only play into Arafats hands, it will be a source of great amusement to the entire Arab world.”

Note:

Daniel Barenboim did not play, and if he would have, he would have played Beethoven.

This shows that efforts by the European Union to initiate an intercultural dialogue will not be acceptable to the Right inside of Israel.
