First sketches for the Chios-Izmir Mural
The Izmir-Chios mural, 2007
Initial drawings were made on the huge canvas which had been donated by Takuya Kaneda on behalf of the Kids' Guernica International Committee. The action took place during the Kids' Guernica exhibition in Chios, May 2007.
Thomas Economacos coordinated the children. He started by involving them first in talks and some simple initial games to initiate dialogue and at the same time to familiarize them with the space the canvas offers.
Vilka was taking a video while the children were playing. That video material still needs cutting to be made available.

Stella Capari was already with Kids' Guernica in Kastelli 2006 and later went with her mother, Maria Capari and Maya Fischer to Japan to attend a Kids' Guernica workshop. Stella was also one of the key children to paint the dancing bodies on the mural of Poiein kai Prattein "The War is over".

Chios in September 2007
Once it was certain that the Niarchos Foundation would donate money for the Kids' Guernica exhibition in conjunction with the ECCM Symposium "Productivity of Culture" held in Athens October 2007, it made possible that Thomas Economacos and Hatto Fischer travel to Chios on Sept. 25th 2007 and after meeting there the youth and their parents in Choios to go altogether by ferry boat over to Turkey. They took with them the canvas with these sketches of ideas. They can be reflected as to what kind of messages children of Chios could sent to their counterparts across the sea, for the coastline of Turkey can be seen from the shorelines of Chios.
