MUZA
The Ministry of Tourism, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Culture and Local Government and Heritage Malta have embarked on a project to develop a new museum typology, purposely created for Malta. MUŻA, as this new museum shall be known, shall be a green-powered museum featuring a display of themes and related objects set within a complementing historic building. MUŻA shall be Malta’s national institution for the arts with the mission of communicating and reaching out to a broad and varied audience base. It shall be developed in line with excellence and best practices in the sector concerning conservation, access and display. MUŻA shall also stand as a major tourist attraction within the historic fabric of the city of Valletta. This project shall introduce a new museum typology, purposely created for Malta, and branded as MUŻA. The acronym stands for Mużew Nazzjonali tal-Arti (National Museum of Fine Arts) but also refers to the Muses, the mythological figures inspiring the arts and from which the word museum originates. MUŻA is the Maltese word for inspiration.
