2. Theoretical Considerations of the Fourth Seminar, “Culture, Building Stone for Europe 2002”
held in Bruges, 26 - 27 November 1993
Speeches given at opening session and in plenary discussions and some comments by Hatto Fischer
It was cold in the corridors of Stichting St. Jan, a former hospital, now readapted into a Congress centre. Only in the plenary room where all delegates gathered, it was a bit warmer. Flu and other factors such as the strike had prevented many from coming at the last moment. Still, about seventy of the 130 invited delegates made their appearance. What followed in the first round of speakers was an interesting debate, between, in particular, Lenoble and Picht. The discussion centred on the topic of how to face the future with regards to both Europe’s past and present circumstances best described by the European community transforming itself into the ‘European Union’.
