Galleries in Charlottenburg

Gallery business has to do with location, reputation and retaining a good mix of old and new. It would mean keeping a steady line with well known artists who develop over time and add, therefore, to the gallery's collection. At the same time, it becomes more interesting by taking in new artists who pose interesting challenges to how things were done up to now. Altogether it leads to a further questioning of the original concept making up the basic policy of the gallery.

At the end of October the gallery exhibited works by Frank Suplie with the title:

It does make a difference if a gallery is located close to K'Dam in Charlottenburg with a favorable spot at the corner of Momsen and Bleibtreu because then people coming in are the ones entering by coincidence and who are still buying in the expectation to take with them a piece of memory while having been in Berlin. The gallerist Annelie Hillmer openly identifies her main customers as conservative. When she took a look at the work of Jad Salman, she recommended immediately not to try it with her, but to go to Berlin Mitte: „ there you shall find gallery owners who are willing to take a risk.“ Indeed, orientation even in such a hard business as galleries selling art is all about honesty.

As for the artists, they feel excited by the prospects of a gallery scene opening up to a diversity of opportunities and especially for the ones willing to take risks by being willing to exhibit unknown artists. Indeed, it is all about the degree of risk taking which gives to the entire art scene a sense of novelty and excitement.
